The Language ComponentMajors and minors in Germanic Studies will acquire the ability to do some advanced (i.e., 4000-level) work (discussion and writing) in German by acquiring German language skills in courses that consist of intensive work on the basic skills and also of assignments (employing the World Wide Web) that introduce students to German culture through the language. Students are encouraged to participate for a summer, semester, or year in one of our programs abroad (Bonn, Mannheim). Courses in TranslationStudents are encouraged to explore a (double) major or minor in Germanic Studies by taking one of the regularly offered courses in translation, most of which satisfy (H)umanities and (I)nternational requirements.
